DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE GROUTING
Clean tiles are fantastic, but the effect can be ruined by unsightly grouting. Grouting is porous and absorbs grease and stains, so can require a bit of scrubbing to get clean, especially if it isn’t sealed. Follow these steps for grout grime removal and remember to try milder solutions first.
- Try warm water and a nylon brush with stiff bristles. Scrub in a circular motion and let dry.
- If this doesn’t work, bring out the vinegar. Fill a spray bottle with a half vinegar, half warm water solution and spray onto the grouting. Scrub and let it set for five minutes before scrubbing off again.
- Bicarb is your next step. You could make a water and bicarb soda paste, apply this to the grout and spray with vinegar.
- Should none of the natural remedies work, move on to hydrogen peroxide or oxygenated bleach. Remember to use caution and to follow the safety instructions.
The best solution is prevention! Make sure you regularly clean and seal your grouting each year to maintain your home’s attractive appearance.
